Student Was Incarcerated After Concealing Bomb-making Manual As Minecraft Guide
A teenager from South East London has been jailed for sharing a bomb-making guide online, disguised as a guide for the popular video game Minecraft.
Connor Burke, 19, a London student at the university, posted the manual, which contained information on how to create IEDs, or improvised explosive devices (IEDs), on Telegram to a group that includes approximately 12,000 users.
Police tracked Burke through his social media accounts and detained him at his Bexleyheath family home. They also discovered terrorist-related documents on Burke's electronic devices. This was all recorded by Woolwich Crown Court.
A search of his bedroom also discovered a copy of Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf and The Anarchist Cookbook, which gave advice for the construction of explosives, the court was informed.
He pleaded guilty to disseminating the publication of a terrorist and four counts of possession of a document likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing terrorist acts, at a hearing in July 2021.
He was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court to a total of 42 months' imprisonment and a further 12 months on licence.
